Cognitive Development Theories

Early cognitive development consists partly of changes in how adolescents thing of the world . In my opinion , Jean Piaget 's theories in this area were and still are very important . Piaget believed cognitive development is a way of adapting to the environment . He believed that children do not have many built in responses . This flexibility of adapting their thi9nking and behavior was a way of fitting into the world as they experience it at certain age levels . His views of children being inherently motivated to explore to understand things and that they

are actively participating in creating their own understanding of the world . He proposed that there are four basic stages of cognitive development sensory motor stage , preoperational stage concrete operational stage and formal operational . Criticism his theory question that cognitive development always progress in an ly sequence and he also had a theory that young infants have very little understanding of the world . Some believed that he overlooked the importance of social interaction and cognitive development . Others say the Piaget 's theories didn 't include enough room in the stages for human diversity . Even though I agree with Piaget 's theories , I do agree with the criticism too . I believe that Piaget 's theory of cognitive development is a good starting map for understanding and gives meaning for adolescent cognitive development
