The origin of personality diss is an extensive problem needing attention in our society . Conventional thinking sees maladaptive patterns as the end result of dysfunctional early environments which usually obstructs the proper response , perception and defense of the individual . Genetic and psychobiologic contributions can result to diss however , the data from various experiments are insufficient and up to present , no definite conclusions can be given
Childhood habits and personality molds what an individual will become From teething , weaning , potty training and finding one 's sexual identity exert a life-time effect on the individual . In general , patients with personality diss have extensive problems concerning social relationships and controlling their moods . These problems persist all throughout their adult life (Bienenfield , 2006 . The usual habits such as nail biting or foot tapping , to more obvious physically damaging behaviors , such as teeth grinding (bruxism ) and pulling of hair are serious manifestations that a child is dealing with serious problems within himself . Often , these habits are part of normal development wherein treatment is not given since it is thought to be normal so through time these habits will be removed or addressed . But at times , it does not become the case because these habits become obstructive to the child 's potential . The accurate rates of children affected by these common habits are difficult to evaluate due to differences of the habits exhibited by the children and the topographies as well . Habits such as thumb sucking , nail biting , nose picking , breath-hold spells , bruxism head banging , and rhythmic movements are observed from infants aged 6-12 months up until 8 years . All habits can end up in social stigmatization and pain depending on the environment where it happens . Stigmatization can result to considerable distress , humiliation , social rejection academic problems , feelings of shame and guilt , discomfort in social activities , and depression or anxiety . These common childhood habits can result in the development of various personalities (Ellis , 2006 . If the habits do not interfere with the development of child , treatment is not necessary and the habit will be omitted through time . But if the habit is triggering the child and /or family member 's distress , social isolation , or physical injury , therapeutic help is needed . Consultation with a developmental-behavioral pediatrician , child psychologist , and /or child psychiatrist should be done immediately .
