Sputum tests included gram staining and culturing , effective demonstrating the presence of gram positive bacteria and Streptococcus pneumoniae as the causative organism . The sputum on examination was rusty red in color . The patient was diagnosed as having pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae
