Abiding by this definition , students ' academic performance would mean their ability to comprehend and effectively convey the theories and concepts taught to them . In addition , students academic performance would also mean their ability to analyze various concepts , and perhaps come up with their own theories that are evolutions from the ones taught to them With this understanding of academic performance , the following standards can be used to positively communicate my

expectations for high academic performance in teaching social science to middle school students taking notes homework project notebooks and /or presentations group work and missed assignments , tests , and quizzes
Social science deals with theories and historical data that will require students to take note of keywords and significant people , dates and places during class discussions . Some data may already be found in textbooks , however , in the course of class discussions , various interpretations of theories and concepts may arise . Students who take down notes are more likely to have a better recall of what have been discussed especially when reviewing for quizzes or exams
Research is vital in social science . Through research , this field of study has broadened its perspective in understanding the complexities of the society . Students will be given homework to give them time to research on a specific within the realm of social science and discuss it in . Their discussion and analysis on the given will be the focus in this standard
Presentations will also be assigned to students as this will test their creativity in interpreting the lessons they have learned through artistic means . This will give the students a chance to lighten up and show their creative side while still being analytical in preparing their presentations
Group work , on the other hand , will give the students a chance to interact with their classmates and share with each other their understanding of the lessons . In the course of group works , debates may arise and these will further spur the analytical skills of the students They will be encouraged to present their respective interpretations and analysis during group discussions , come up with a decision and in the end produce a group project
Lastly , missed assignments , tests , and quizzes will also be a standard for academic performance . Some students tend to neglect their assignments , tests , and quizzes , thinking that these won 't greatly affect their grades anyway . On the contrary , these contribute to the measurement of their academic performance . Depending on the reason for missing assignments , tests , and quizzes , students will be given grade deductions for every task they miss to submit or take . Late submission of assignments as well as special tests or quizzes may be considered for students who failed to come to class due to an illness , but will be required to submit a medical certificate
