A HISTORICAL ANALOGY OF AMERICAN CIVIL WAR AND IRAQ WAR
In this analogy , I will compare American civil war (1861-1865 ) to the much recent Iraq war (2003-present . A civil war is fought among different regions or groups of different beliefs in the same country America witnessed the bloodiest encounters of its history in form of the civil war in the period from 1861-1865 and Iraq is facing a similar situation since 2003 till date . It has been 140 years since the American civil war , the most tragic event in the history of America and the memories still attract number of people visit the civil war battlefields across the country . This was the biggest battle that Americans fought against Americans . The reasons for the war were the differences among the Northern and Southern states on various issues like the extinction of slavery from the American continent , industrialization and political rights . The Northern and Southern states were heading towards two different cultures and a conflict was inevitable . Northern region was on the road to industrialization while Southern region was dependent on slavery based agricultural plantations . Slaves were exploited as cheap labor and were an attractive option for landowners . Abraham Lincoln was the president of America at that time . Northerners did not support slavery as it was a major hurdle in the path of economic growth Southern states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America while the rest were known as the Union . Eventual course of events led to a civil war between two groups . War continued from 1861-1865 with the loss of the Southerners . The cost of war was huge number of human casualties . Iraqis are experiencing the same bloodshed across the country . Iraqis are killing fellow Iraqis . The country is divided on religious and ethical grounds . The Sunnis and the Shi 'ites have divided in various groups . Internal conflicts among the countrymen are devastating for human lives (Catton McPherson , 2004
