During the Civil War, both, Northerners and Southerners believed they fought against tyranny and oppression, Northerners focused on the oppression of slaves while Southerners defended their own right to self-government.

Southerners to find yet another reason for them to go into war with the Northerners . Thus the civil war between the Northerners and the Southerners had nothing to do with oppression and tyranny but a means of settling their differing opinions

The people of the South were united not by their claim of bringing to an end tyranny and oppression that was being practiced , but by their common support of slavery . On the other hand , the Northerners ' emotions and thoughts about slavery made them to perceive the practice as a sin which

again united them . The Northerners viewed the Southerners as foreigners who originated from a region where human rights simply did not exist and were thus primitive the Southerners also perceived the Northerners in a similar way and thus there was a sharp conflict between the two groups The slavery issue resulted into several conflicts between Northerners and Southerners . Slavery became a constant source of anger for the Northerners who felt that it was not only unjust but also violated the basic human rights of the slaves and should therefore , be made illegal in the whole of United States

Despite the fact that it seemed that the Northerners were very much against slavery that was prevalent in the south , and that they upheld the issue of human rights , the opposite is true . This is because although there was no slavery in the north , the former black slaves living in the North were not treated equally with the whites . They faced all forms of discrimination and were thus considered less human being than people from other races .
