p The Storm Kate Chopin 's short story The Storm describes an encounter of infidelity between two lovers during a brief thunderstorm . The story deals with the contentious topic of sexuality of woman and also rejection of the suppression of it by society . The title `Storm ' metaphorically connects the real storm outside and the storm of emotions in Calixtra and Alcee . The strength of their sexual act is exactly like the raging storm outside . The love climaxes and diminishes with the storm . They tried to prevent the storm by staying away

from each other , and also set up barriers between themselves by not being alone together , but were broken like the storm trying to expose the hidden things furiously . Calixtra and Alcee were moving close with the storm of love 'The rain beat upon the low shingled roof with a force and clatter that threatened to break an entrance and deluge them there ' This shows the intensity of their emotional status . The temptation inside was so strong that they could hardly hide them any longer . Chopin introduces lightening along with storm as a symbol of the strong attractive force . It filled all visible places with a binding glare and the crash seemed to invade the very boards they stood upon . The magnetic force of lightening draws them together so that no other force can ever separate them now Sometimes the storm in nature is a creative force also .
