In accordance to Hunt and Ray 's conception of the genre , children 's literature may thereby be seen as an important tool for teaching individuals during their childhood years . The reason for this may be traced to how children 's literature allows the child to easily understand the concepts and events that are presented within these texts as the concepts and events presented within these texts are made to cohere with the worldview and experiences of individuals during their childhood . From an educator 's point of view , on the other hand , children 's literature may prove to be a helpful tool within the classroom as it allows the child to develop both cognitive and substantive thinking skills
