In this , we will assess the No Child Left Behind Act 's (NCLB suitability for effecting monumental reforms in the American educational system . The question would be , first , on the appropriateness of the emphasis on having regular standardized testing in Math and Reading and setting academic benchmarks as the means of assessing the academic capability and achievement of students , and , second , the focus being given on identifying the appropriate effective intervention needed , with regards to the result of the tests
At the end of this , we will show that standardized tests can provide enlightening data on the state of education as a whole . We will also show that results of standardized tests should not be the sole parameter used for assessing a states ' education system as this cannot objectively provide a picture of the whole situation in a particular educational system . The appropriate intervention method chosen must be based on the weakness disclosed by the results of the standard test and closely monitored for it to be effective
Qualitative research will be the primary method used for this Using documentary research , standardized testing will be assessed as an effective medium for assessing students ' academic capabilities through an analysis of the formal education system . After which , different methods of teaching , as related to the identifying appropriate intervention models for students whose academic capabilities have been assessed , will be discussed
Readings included for this research were the documents on NCLB prepared by the GAO , particularly No Child Left Behind Act . Report to Congressional Requesters those prepared by the RAND Corporation , and Education commission of the States . Other insights were derived from Deborah Meier 's book , Will Standards Save Public Education
No Child Left Behind policy is legislation by the federal government to be implemented across America . Achievement gaps among students in the United States were studied and found . This policy is supposedly aimed at narrowing that gap . No one can argue against narrowing this gap .
