There are three types of human memory : sensory , short-term and long-term memories . Sensory applies to the perception of information from stimuli through any of the five senses , within seconds of its occurrence . When the human decides to keep the memory , process it further minutes after the stimulus , information is then stored in the short-term memory Meanwhile , long-term memory is said to store information for a longer period also known as one 's knowledge base

In the early development of childhood memory , short-term memory span or capacity is significant .
