Recruitment in the Women 's Army Corps , WACs was limited to 10 percent African American enlistment compared to that of White women (Sheldon . Although training was integrated , service recreation , and housing was segregated along racial lines . There were limited opportunities for women to receive overseas assignments in support units . Since African American males rarely served on the front lines , African American women had even fewer opportunities to be deployed with support units since they were prohibited from supporting White male units .
