World Politics Since 1945

Whenever one thinks of politics , what comes to mind first is collective decision-making and power . Such decision-making inevitably impacts on the lives of all the people that it involves within the period of time being considered . This sets out to identify the key elements of the world 's political trends , with 1945 as the reference point

One of the mentionable aspects of international politics has been the setting up and operations of the United Nations Organization . This was founded

in 1945 , immediately after the Second World War . This has for a long time played a key role in global decision-making . It has helped in resolution of multinational conflicts , in addition to trying to administer an international system of justice . Humanitarian operations have also been pursued by the organization which although not a super government , has been important in promoting international cohesion However , with time , it has repeatedly been accused of being in existence to front the agenda of the world powers , more especially , the United States of America (Weir 88

Neo-colonialism , in which the developed world opted for economic rather than political domination have also increasingly become issues in international history (Reynold 60

A number of political issues relating to international security can also be attributed to this period . These include for instance the disagreements among nations relating to nuclear weapons . An initial example of this was between the United States and Soviet Union in 1964 More recent examples have been quarrels between the United Nations North Korea and Iran . There seems to have with time , developed a trend of countries trying to assert a nuclear standing , resulting in conflict with global powers (Myler 110

From 1945 , there was also an apparent decline in the influence of European countries . Unlike before when Europe literally dominated world politics , the post-1945 was marked by them playing a supportive rather than dominant role in the international scene . There was the rise of two forces , the United States and the Soviet Union . This also marked the beginning of a race to dominate world opinion between the two forces For several decades there was to be a cold war and polarization of the world into two along ideological lines (Reynold 64

There was also the rise of china as a political and economic power in the international arena...
