The industry is generating lots of revenue for federal and state government in the form

of taxes and related fees . Estimates put the value of consumer spending on wireless communications at 104 .4 billion . The cell phone industry has culminated in significant savings for a lot of the industries that that have adopted wireless technology and improved performance outcomes for most companies . In the year 2004 these savings were estimated to be in excess of 8 billion . The low cost of telephone calls has brought down the cost of business for most enterprises and improved the speed at which transactions are being made The industry is proving to be a major contributor to employment with at least 3 .6 million people employed directly in the industry directly and thousands more indirectly . Cell phones also reduce the need for people to travel up and down between the head and field offices . They can easily transact business over the phone and receive instructions over the email . It has been a significant development in the organization of logistics in that a manager located in one place can oversee a number of activities in different places and effectively monitor them through innovations like the GPRS on a cell phone . Small and medium enterprises (SME 's ) have been greatly assisted by the development of the cell phone in that the need for personally going for supplies is reduced . By simply calling the supplier , the businessperson can facilitate the delivery of goods and services and pay for them through the various money transfer products offered by the networks . This saves the business money and improves on the efficiency . The proliferation of the cell phones is beneficial to third parties in many ways . The increased taxation that the government earns helps it to finance social programs that benefit the population . Further the spread of cell phones leads to the creation of jobs in many sectors that serve the industry like charging of phones services , selling of airtime , repair of mobiles and selling of accessories . In the year 2004 , wireless companies and their employees contributed to the federal and state government coffers over 63 billion in form of taxes and statutory fees (Entner , 2007
