Would you consider anyone in the story a hero

There are two connotations of the word hero ' one is someone who posses special traits and uses it to save others and another is being the lead character in a story . In Raymond Carver 's Cathedral , both these definitions are present in the story . The first hero is the narrator being the protagonist of the story a protagonist does not necessarily have to be a well liked character . Anyone can be a protagonist even if he or she possesses

anti-hero qualities . The second hero is Robert , the blind man , he is more fitting for the word because in a sense , he saves not only the narrator but also his marriage with his wife . Context clues from the text suggest that the narrator and his wife do not have a good marriage and it is possible that if Robert hadn 't visited them , they could have d for divorce .
