SPECT makes use of the latest technology and highly modern equipment making it not only a state of the art device but also an expensive one . The scans extracted from this latest machine can be correctly analyzed by persons who are credentialed for SPECT and are board certifies in nuclear medicine and also have the training experience . The request from cardiologists may

have tensed the radiologists because the cardiologists did not have the proven capability to read SPECT scans . Therefore there is a chance that if the cardiologists were involved the quality of care may be affected and ultimately affecting the patient 's health , as there is a fairly good chance that the scans can be analyzed incorrectly by incapable people The economic issue that Berson suspected was that perhaps the cardiologists who were capable of analyzing the SPECT scans were being afraid that there monopoly that they had would become void . The scans done by SPECT are expensive and maybe the cardiologists thought that involving the radiologists may undermine their economic benefits
