Since the year 2005 , not only did Nintendo , Sony and Microsoft equip their video games with powerful micro processor , internet connectivity and hard drives but also enhanced high-definition graphics resolution . Third generation video games such as Sony 's PlayStation 3 (PS3 , Microsoft 's Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii offered users with lifelike and highly sophisticated games which can be played at home or around the world with internet connectivity
In 2008 , close to 300 million people in the world used console systems mobile phones , PCs and handheld devices to play video games with the majority being between 20 and 40 years old . A fan of video game spends an average of six hours per week while an average American plays video games for at least 75 hours every year .
