THE CASE OF HARRY HOUDINI A type of oral or written communication , called exposition , explains describes , gives information and even informs the readers . The author of an expository writing could not presume that his readers or listeners have aforementioned data or prior insight about the subject being discussed . Also , the author must always use words that are easily comprehendible by a common reader . One of the best examples of an expository writing is The Case of Harry Houdini ' written by Daniel Mark Epstein . This is because it contains all the characteristics mentioned earlier , from organization of ideas down to the ideas that the author is imparting to his readers
Specifically , the author started his work by giving an overview of what would be discussed in the entire , which in turn serves as guide to the readers . Subsequently , he pursued with the entire work by discussing them in detail . Also , he did not make any assumptions that may hinder an ordinary reader from understanding his work . Lastly , the author sees to it that he gives supplementary details about everything for it to be comprehensible
At the beginning of his writing , he indicated some information about Houdini 's life , especially being a rabbi 's son , his birth in Hungary to his travels in the United States , up to his tours back in Europe , and then returning to the U .S . After the said biography , he then informs his readers of what he does , which is to be an escape artist . He also expounded on the courses of action that the (German ) officials and Houdini himself do whenever he is attempting another escape act . Lastly the author stated that towards the end of Houdini 's career , he himself revealed the secrets of his own tricks
