First , if the world will be inhabited by people like Carrie who possesses TK powers , the world will surely be in peril . However , it also moves the readers to think that the problem does not really lie on Carrie 's special powers . Basically , it provides suspense as the story is told in different perspectives . The use of the journal that studies Carrie 's case suggests that the incidents happened in the past . It also implies the seriousness of the case , thus invites the audience to delve on the matter psychologically , and continue reading . Moreover , the use of the testimonies of the townspeople suggests the author 's ability to tell the story at different angles thus making it seem more realistic
