What is Carlos Bulosan`s Argument in `America is in the Heart`?

America is the Heart

America is in the heart ' is not a fiction , but you wish it is for its brutal and savage portrayal of humankind , for the vicious and lurid images it illustrated in graphic details about the harshness of America against other races

It is a disturbing true-to-life journal , an autobiography of Carlos Bulosan , an unknown itinerant worker from the Philippines , his journey from a small , impoverished town in the Philippines to the so-called land of milk and honey ' that tasted at the cost of sanity and humanity p

For many Asian migrant workers in America , it might as well be their story , too . It is a tale of fortitude and hope , a struggle to escape poverty from their homeland only to find loneliness and solitude far worse than it . It is a chronicle of the life process that immigrants had to go through in America , from a life of hope and uncertainty to a life realization but not always fulfillment

The journal began with a graphic narrative about life in a sleepy remote town in Pangasinan , Philippines , where he was born and raised until he realized that the town and its people continued to remain in slumberland and , therefore , he had to move on . He narrated with honest candor his family 's impoverished life resulting from its bondage to the small piece of lot it had toiled for generations , working in the harshest of tropical summer and the rainiest of season only to receive a fraction of the harvest

Despite the hard work , the family continued to live a squalor life hardly able to send their children to school to learn new things and ensure a better life for the next generation . As the family toiled day and night to prepare the land , the family 's absentee landlord would appear just in time for the harvest to get his undeserved share while usurers stand by the side to also get theirs

But it was not altogether a difficult life , especially in the Philippines where families and friends are like treasured gems they sparkle in the most hideous of circumstances . Food and friendship are shared in wild communal abundance picnicking in lush forest groves and beautiful white beaches , where one town was a veritable community of relatives and friends , oftentimes branching out in the next town or so .Yet , the family made hardly enough from the land to serve , much less share , enough food on the table , buy clothes on special occasions , and most importantly , send their children to school to improve its chances of ending this cycle of poverty spawned by ignorance

America is in the heart ' might as well be the Philippines is in the heart ' for the book inexplicably explores author Carlos Bulosan 's unmistakable ties and fondness for his native country , his colorful romance with his past , and his deep attachment to his impoverished farming family that had lost to usurers the small plot that it toiled for generations . The grief of the loss and...
