The branches of criminal justice includes law enforcement , courts , and corrections . There are several careers in each of the said branches of the criminal justice . But the career that attracted me most is the defense lawyer 's profession . In other regimes and countries , lawyers are elected by the public or designated by political parties for government positions Lawyers are professional and unquestionably knowledgeable with the actual language and body of laws . However , the bulk and importance of their functions may tilt the scale in defending and prosecuting people while upholding justice in today 's complexed criminal justice system

In the criminal justice system , all persons accused of a crime have the right to be assisted with a counsel of their own choosing and in all stages of the criminal proceedings . Such right to counsel is mandatory and is provided by the constitution in to properly defend and protect the accused 's fundamental but often abused rights . In criminal justice , having a good lawyer for the defense and for the prosecution is the best way finding the truth . Active representation of the counsels of both the plaintiff and defense of a case is the justice system (WACDL , 2008 , n .p . The proper determination on a legal issue can be best attained by entertaining the two sides of a contention . From a supporter point of view , each lawyer has the duty and responsibility in presenting their side of the facts and law of the case . Prosecutor plays the role of both government representative and government lawyer , while the defense attorney primarily acts as the protector of the interests of the defendant . However , protecting the clients , the truth and the justice system are both the responsibilities of aforementioned lawyers . The lawyers , as fundamental agents of the management of justice shall at all times preserve the dignity and honor of the legal profession .
