Capital punishment has been at the center of controversy for many years The bone of contention has always been whether this form of punishment should be abolished or not . A section of people feel that this form of punishment should not be abolished as it is the only means of ensuring that hardcore criminals are kept away completely from the rest of the society . Another divide argues

that since the establishment of this form of punishment , not much has changed in terms of behavior and that the rate of crime has escalated . They therefore argue that the purpose for which this form of punishment was established has been defeated and that it is time that this law was scraped off . This discussion focuses on the controversy that has surrounded capital punishment in the United States of America

The United States of America is one of the major democracies in the world that still holds on to this law which many people feel is long overdue for abolishment . The punishment was first adopted when America was under colonization by Britain . When America got her independence they adopted all the laws that governed them prior to independence and that is how capital punishment got to be part of the American laws .
