Consequentialism refers to the moral theories which entail that the consequences of a particular action form the basis for any valid moral judgment about that action hence from this standpoint a morally right action is one that produces good consequences and outcomes . This concept is distinct from deontology which derives the wrongness or rightness of an action from the character of the act itself rather than the outcomes
