Puerto Rico is situated in Caribbean neighboring Dominican Republic and Virgin Island to the East and West respectively

According to scholars , the history of Puerto Rico dates back to over 4000 years ago when the Puerto Ferro man inhabited it . This however was in the early times . Before the coming and colonization by the Spanish , a culture referred to as the Taino culture was predominant . Taino Amerindians lived in Puerto Rico and had their own political social and

economic settings . This system and culture was however pushed into extinction by the Spaniards marked by the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1493 . It is this exploration that would open a floodgate of Spaniards in Puerto Rico who enslaved the natives together with bringing in more slaves from Africa (Dix R , 226

Puerto Rico was colonized by the Spaniards amidst a strong opposition and attacks from other European powers especially the British who were trying to colonize the North America . It underwent a period of cultural political and economic transformation

Struggle for independence dates back to the 19th century culminating to independence in 1987 ,November 25th .From its formative stage , Puerto Rico was in a collision path with the Americans and was subdued after the treaty of pans of 1898 and the American control established . It was delinked after the U .S congress sanctioned the establishment of a civil government . In 1917 , it was made a U .S territory . To date it still remains a U .S territory despite the partial autonomy it was granted in 1952 and its own constitution

Puerto Rico is small in size . It is inhabited with mountain . It is endowed with beautiful sceneries that have seen it become a major tourist attraction

Colombia shares a similar history to Puerto Rico . It was colonized by the Spanish who first settled on the coast in the 1500 where they established the center of their colony in Bogotb . The struggle for independence started on 1810 with the formation of a council to press for liberation . The Republic of Gran Colombia was established in 1819 and encompassed all the viceroyalty territories with Simon Bolivar as the first president

Gran Colombia was to be dissolved in 1830 to become the republic New Granada only to be changed later on to become the republic of Colombia in 1886
