Numerous purposes were aimed during this movement by

During that time , the internal rebellions and foreign antagonism were trying their best to obliterate the Qing Dynasty and diminish the Chinese traditions and culture , which were the foundation and pillars of the Chinese empire

The transformation of the dynasty to an advanced level and the rehabilitation progression of its overwhelmed economy were some of the main aims and objectives of this Self-Strengthening Movement . Various appropriate policies were adopted by the Chinese systems , in to restructure China with more strength and power to defend and apply their traditions during this reign

The Chinese scholars initialized grafting procedure of Western technology onto Chinese institutions during this movement . Some Chinese intellectuals like Li Hongzhang and Zuo Zongtang championed this movement , who were also seen during the Taiping Rebellion against the government forces

Modern institutions were established and recognized by these administrators basic industries were developed during this movement . In this regard , the Chinese military was also modernized with the equipments and technical facilities during this movement

The Chinese leaders and scholars attempted their best to accomplish their goals , but despite these efforts , the significance of the political associations was not recognized by this movement . The implication of social theories was also not given to this movement through which Western innovations and advancement was promoted in the Qing Dynasty

It can be generalize that the movement was recognized as a failure due to this weakness of inconsequentiality in the political arena . This movement have made very difficult for the Western powers to influence the Chinese empire , if the aims would have been attempted under the best circumstances

However , the corruption and bureaucracy of the Chinese empire did not allow this movement to breathe , restore , and recover the Qing Dynasty If we try to look into the consequences of the failure of this movement we come across some of the main reasons of the failure of the strengthening movement during the Qing Dynasty

In this regard , the Empress Dowager Cixi 's role was also one of the causes behind the breakdown of this movement . From the facts of the Qing Dynasty , it can be seen that the biggest obstacle was this Empress Cixi who hindered in carrying out the reforms of this movement

The movement would have been a success , if this Empress Cixi 's opposition were not in the way of these Chinese scholars , as she was one of the main persons who were controlling the Qing...
