p Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Reality Therapy (NAME Cognitive behavioral therapy , CBT and reality therapy , RT are some of the few interventions used in many psychotherapy . The term psychotherapy means , the way of solving a problem that has relation to the psychological being of a person . Many people face problems in their lives and some of these problems can be classified as emotional or mental problems . Just like in the case of David Chan whose academic life turned into terrible one because unlike in his previous academic performance where he excels

After counseling the true situation of Chan , they found out that the real problem that Chan is experiencing is the pressure being given by his parents . His parents wanted him to take an engineering course with out consent from Chan . Chan did not like engineering but instead he was forced to take it because of his parents . In this , we will try to use CBT and RT to solve the problems of Chan

CBT uses the Socratic Method . The said method uses questions to understand fully the situation of the patient . The patient may also ask question to his therapist . Another characteristic of CBT is that , the method is goal-oriented . Every session will involve the planning to achieve the main goal for the patient
According to and Albert Ellis (2001 , the founder of CBT , a person may experience depression and in the case of Chan , he receives failing grades because he was depressed on his current electrical course and his situation in his family . The therapist must focus to divert as well to change these negative thinking in to more realistic and positive thoughts . As in the case of Chan , the main root of his depression is his parents . It is important to imply that the parents of Chan only wanted is the good sake of Chan . They wanted him to have a better life in the future by providing Chan quality education and that the parents of Chan had done many sacrifices just for the sake of their son . In this way Chan will realize that the things that were done by his parent to him were all for the goodness of Chan
But this is not enough , it is also important to establish to Chan that at his age , he has the right and freedom to choose what he wants in his life . We know that parents have controls on their children , but so does the child (Albano and Kearney , 2000
