CAI 202 “School Curricula: Concepts and Structure”

Introduction

Lesson Plan and Bloom 's Taxonomy

A learning process involves a teacher and students (more appropriately as learners ) in an interactive process called teaching . There 's an exchange of knowledge where the teacher dissipates knowledge to the learners by an array of methods such as experiments , demonstration questioning , or by lecturing . The learners on the other hand participate actively by either asking questions , observing , carrying out instructions , answering questions from the teacher , or by passive participation which mainly involves taking notes

For a meaningful teaching to take place the

teacher needs to have a thorough preparation before presenting himself to a class . This preparation always calls for the teacher to have proper schemes of work from which eventually a realistic lesson plan will be derived . The basic difference between a scheme of work and lesson plan is that while a working schemes covers along period of time , in most cases it is a term covering three months , a lesson plan will be prepared to cover only a single lesson

What are the contents of the lesson plan ? The lesson must contain the name of the teacher , the school , and level of the class , time of the lesson , sub , and objectives of the lesson . As a result of all this contents of the lesson is very imperative . The lesson plan is the only document that gives the school administration that actually the teacher had properly for the lesson . Therefore an organised teacher can be evaluated from the presence of his well organised lesson . In addition , the plan helps the instructor to visualise what resources instructional materials and also the methods he can use to pass the instruction to the learners . In most cases this important document acts as a summary document of what the teacher will teach in that particular hour besides being a memory bank for this very teacher . In most cases when the teacher is preparing for a lesson he inserts everything and notes in the summarised plan and hence the instructor has , in essence , a bank for him or her . Finally , it gives the instructor the proper security . How ? In most cases the administration might come over to check whatever the teacher is giving the learners . In case he is found without a realistic lesson plan then disciplinary measures might be taken against him or her including interdiction and demotion

Before we turn to the lesson plan of the day , let 's briefly discuss the Bloom 's taxonomy . Bloom 's taxonomy was actually developed , as the name suggests , by Benjamin Bloom . The taxonomy was actually a process of categorisation of levels by which learners get to grasp question they come across in the learning process . In real sense the questions are categorised in levels from the lowest level , that is , the easiest to grasp , to the highest and the toughest to get to understand . Bloom 's taxonomy is divided into three levels . These levels called domains are cognitive domain , psychomotor domain and affective domain . The cognitive...
