Introduction

Critical thinking serves as a good foundation for objective analysis the results of which aids in the correct definition of the problem . As a result , sound alternative courses of action are generated . Bassham et al (2005 ) defines critical thinking as . a wide range of cognitive skills and intellectual dispositions needed to effectively identify analyze , and evaluate arguments and truth claims , to discover and overcome personal prejudices and biases , to formulate and present convincing reasons in support of conclusions , and to make reasonable intelligent decisions about what

to believe and what to do ' By not using critical thinking techniques , management analysts may limit their views and opinions that prevent further scrutiny of the problem situation and unwittingly are led to the wrong solutions by decision traps (Langlois , G . 2007

In the case assignment , Chuck Hanrahan raised an issue on the problem of illegal immigrants in the United States . He believes existing federal laws are the solution to the problem . What is lacking is the political will to implement them by the right agency . The critical thinking techniques of Brown and Keeley (2006 ) will serve as the model for this exercise . Hanrahan 's arguments are outlined below

The problem can be solved only by addressing respective demand and supply factors

The government needs political will to implement fully laws covering illegal immigrant workers

For efficiency , the Employment Standards Administration (ESA ) should implement laws covering illegal immigrant workers

Reminiscent of slavery , the US government has sanctioned the creation of a permanent and legal subclass of American workers

Amending present laws on immigration and labor to accommodate the presence of illegal immigrants is not the solution

Analysis

Chuck Hanrahan presents a prescriptive issue to stop the growing inflow of illegal immigrant workers into the United States . He suggested that the both the supply and demand side of the illegal immigration problem be addressed with political will . For efficiency , the monitoring and implementation of laws covering illegal immigrant workers be transferred to the Employment Standards Administration . He gave the following reasons

1 . In to solve the inflow of illegal immigrant workers into the United States , the government has to address the problem from both the demand and supply perspectives . The efforts of the Citizenship and Immigration Services (formerly the Immigration and Naturalization Service ) with the help of the B Patrol , focused on the supply side of the problem . According to the author , the implementation has been weak and described as anemic . On the demand side , the Internal Revenue Services is mandated to run after employers who submit incomplete or incorrect employee information . Illegal immigrant workers need Social Security Numbers (SSN ) to get employment . Because of their legal status , they have to use stolen SSN to get work 2 .
