Running head : Internet and the Society Name University Course Tutor Date IMPACTS OF INTERNET TECHNOLOGY ON THE SOCIETY Comparing and Contrasting the reports on Internet impacts on the society Internet is one of the world 's most improving technologies . Most work in most places of the world is done through Internet (Bonilla and Cliche , 2004 . Several studies have been done on Internet and the society based on different things , but there are two institutions that have conducted a research on the impacts of Internet in the society

br These are the Stanford group that conducted a study on the socio-political impacts of the Internet technology on the society and the UCLA that studied social , political , economic , behavioral and cultural impacts on the society
Internet technology evolves and there are innovations involved in it but it had a beginning . There is one main issue tackled by both research parties which is the impact of Internet technology on the society . In all the research studies , the society is of concern , but there is a difference in the sub-objectives . In UCLA 's report , it is indicated that the aim of the study was to enable policy makers planners especially corporate , be aware of the impacts of the Internet technology so as to avoid problems due to the impact before it happens The study also focuses on informing the social and the cultural study groups . It means that the research institution ULCA , already knew there were factors that would affect the society if the Internet is used This is evidenced in their objective that argues that the evolution of television if had been studied earlier , could not have affected the media , Historians and the Policy makers (Lebo , 2000
The research aims at producing yearly results so as to enable policy makers , the society and even corporate planners move by the progress made step by step , and not to wait for accumulated results on the impacts
Stanford research study is also concerned about the impact of the Internet technology , but now specifically on the innovative nature of the technology and time consumption . The study report indicates that the objective of the research is to find out what the future of the society will be , with the continued changing /improving technology Internet technology is shown to have revolutionized to an extent that people are able to work at home , this makes Stanford Research Institute want to determine if the society will be lively in the coming years or be consisted of 'ex-couched potatoes (Nie and Erbring , 2000
The main difference here is that , UCLA aims at preventing social political , cultural problems due to the Internet technology , and focuses on informing the society so that necessary decisions can be made to improve the Internet technology (Lebo , 2000 , while Stanford aims at finding out what the innovations of the technology result to in the future , whether they will harm or benefit the society by taking so much society time or not (Nie and Erbring , 2000 .
