Business Ethics
Business Ethics Introduction George Mackee is a bright and energetic manager of Ardnak Plastic Inc a small plant that manufactured plastic parts for small equipment Everything was smooth sailing until he was faced with problem regarding the smokestack emission of the factory which is way above the EPA guidelines . His boss , Bill , has called him several months ago about the matter which was relayed unto him by EPA and the fines that would be levied . He was also told that other plants have worse problems that George 's and yet they

are able to pass EPA standards . It was then , that George finds out how his contemporaries at other Ardnak plants operate They schedule their heavy emission at night so that during the day when EPA conducts their sporadic readings , they are within standards . George considered the option though
George here is both the stakeholder and the decision maker . He is a stakeholder because he must do his job as an employee of Ardnak Plastic Inc , and yet he himself must decide on what actions to be done so as to address their problem , thus , a decision maker
Ethical issues surround this case because George contemplated an option which he should not be done in the first place because he was pressured to do such . Kant , in his categorical imperative theory defined an imperative as any proposition that declares a certain action (or inaction ) to be necessary (Categorical Imperative , Wikipidea , para .1 In this case something must be done immediately because the higher authority is not happy about the fines that are being levied to them . If this problem is not dealt with in the soonest time possible , it could lead to some things worse in the case of George . It could put him in a position where it is hard or impossible to recover from , thus hurting his business and his finances
He is faced with issues that would question environment responsibility His second option was to relocate the plant on the Mexican side that would devastate the infrastructure of the city of Hondo and continue put contaminants into the air on the U .S side . Relocation may be a solution but there are also other underlying principles to consider in doing so It could make or break George , thus putting him in a situation where it would require proper planning so that every action that will be taken will not cause him his demise
Stakeholder Management - the employee
George , as his plant is the main concern in the case must do something about their plant not within the EPA standards . Because the headquarters would not invest in new smokestack scrubbers , he could not do anything about the problem but tell EPA that they are operating within their limits and that there is no money for new scrubbers
What are the employee stakeholders` interests for each ethical issue or concern you identified in the Introduction
George knew that both of the options he considered would have negative setbacks . Social...
