Management information systems (MIS ) have been applied in various departments and business sectors to improve the performance of such areas . MIS can for instance be used in the Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO ) for the marketing activities . Integration and flexibility are important characteristics of MIS to the marketing activities of HMOs . Integration is important in providing multifaceted information on marketing while flexibility gives the marketer room to address the variety of targets This also includes management as a whole . MIS can thus be considered as a system that provides periodic and predetermined reports which summarizes information (Willie-ga 2002 . It is hence right to argue that MIS provides the management team with routine summary reports and exceptional reports

Transaction Processing System (TPS ) processes transactions that take place within any business organization . This system performs routine functions and it also serves as a foundation for other systems . The transaction systems are important in that they handle errors that can occur in the system in a safe and constant manner , though some errors cannot be avoided . Decision Support System (DSS ) can be defined as the computer systems that aid the user to make judgment and choice of activities (Druzdel and Flynn , 2005 . Decision Support Systems can be of great help to the management team by integrating various sources of information where there is cognitive deficiency . This system can as well be able to support choice among various alternatives and build on formal approaches . DSS can also be used to solve intractable problems by formal techniques through the application of artificial intelligence methods . DSS can hence be used to do the analysis of What if ' by using the data from MIS . The different between the analyses between MIS and DSS is that DSS is a `right now ' analysis while the MIS analysis is a long-term structured (Willie-ga , 2002

Organizations that properly uses the decision making tools increases productivity , efficiency and effectiveness . This on the other hand will give the business organization competitive advantage over the competitors
