IMPORTANCE OF CONSUMER PRIVACY IN TODAY 'S MARKETING Consumer privacy laws and regulations are drafted with the intention to protect any individual from loss of privacy due to failures or limitations of corporate customer privacy measures . These legislative measures do recognize that the damage done by privacy loss is typically not measurable , nor can it be undone , and that commercial organizations have little or no interest in taking unprofitable measures to drastically increase privacy of customers . Quite the contrary , most companies have the tendency to share data for commercial advantage , and

would normally use these information to market their products in the most cost effective manner
The recent proliferation of high tech gadgets to screen the pros of the consumers , customer privacy measures alone proved insufficient to deal with the many hazards of corporate data sharing , corporate mergers employee turnover , theft of hard drives or other data-carrying hardware from work
Common courtesy dictates that what is private information should remain priate unless there is an explicit consent from an indivdual allowing someone to gain access to his private details . Although there is admittedly a proliferation of breaches in privacy , the silver lining in this particular issue is the growing awareness of the people with respect to their privacy rights . Organizations have been set up where people can complain on any privacy violation and also learn about how to protect themselves against privacy intrusion
