Michael Moore in his documentary Bowling for Columbine is asking viewers to be aware and examine the sad statistics in America -- the country has the highest number of gun related murders and homicide . He propagates his idea by interviewing and confronting various parties who are related and involved in guns . He first shows that he himself is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA , the agency that lobbied for laws that would allow Americans to store arms in their homes . He talks to members of the militia and other gun owners , one of whom claimed that the guns are necessary to protect her family . He also talked with a teenager who was expelled for gun toting in school . He visits Wal-Mart or Kmart , retailers that are profiting from the sale of ammunition and firearms . He visits Charles Nichols , an organic tofu farmer , who shared his thoughts that he should be allowed to keep guns at his home pursuant to the second amendment to the U .S .
