Book Report
MOVIE REVIEW The Mafia way of life may seem like a romantic updated version of the western movie played out on the streets of the big cities where the good guys and the wise guys who share the same instincts and values do battle before an enthralled public but it is actually very different . The Mafia is really just a group of uneducated thugs making money by victimizing the public . This will be seen in the two movies (The Casino and The Godfather ) that I took a great deal of time to painstakingly

br review below
Before I start the review of these movies , certain attributes of the two movies must be cursorily discussed . A unique attribute of the mafia which these two movies fall under , is that they do engage in illegal business . Such business includes guns , hard drugs , etc . Also , there is always secrecy in the mafia . By this is meant that the mafia cherishes secrecy more than anything else . For instance , there is the mafia vow of `omerta ' which means that the vow of silence must never be broken . A break of such vow is always met by severe sanction or punishment
Furthermore , the mafia never forgives nor forgets . In their world , there is nothing like an appeal to pity or any mitigating circumstances . All these will be seen during the review of the two movies mentioned above
THE GODFATHER
This is Mario Puzo at his best . The movie was first released as a novel It was an instant success . Millions of copies of this novel were sold which made it an international number1 best-seller . Not quite long , it was released as a movie . The film is a trilogy , that is , it is divided into three parts
The first part of this movie which was released in 1972 was an instant success . In the movie , the twin elements of family piety and hair-raising violence nourished and enlarged each other in ways that were unsettling and funny . The intensity of the Corleones ' love for one another drew us in , yet as soon as we began to think that they weren 't quite monsters , that they were vital and attractive , they would kill someone . The bullets slamming into bodies , the feet kicking through windshields , rebuffed our weak sentimentality . Francis Coppola 's story moved ahead fiercely yet with just enough space for texture and detail - for the interweaving of major and minor characters , foreground and background , mob and America . The narrative possessed a fullness and decisiveness without equal in American movie history
One thing that must be noted in this movie is that it portrays the stark reality of the mafia world . The peculiar characteristics of the mafia family are being enunciated in the movie
The part two of the movie extended the Corleone family saga forward into Michael Corleone 's unhappy maturity and the period of the family 's control over Las Vegas in the fifties and sixties , and backward to Vito Corleone 's youth in Sicily and Little Italy...
