While it is good on the surface for the Eastern Europe nations to advance at least to some extent , the fact that the cheap labor of Eastern Europe is used to advance Western Europe and North America into very lucrative high technology enterprises does not seem to bother Sachs on one hand , he proclaims economic freedom , but then seems to say that economic oppression is acceptable if the slaves ' are treated well . Where are Celebrities When You Need Them
When this began , it was pointed out that Jeffrey Sachs is associated with many of the most influential , and wealth celebrities and politicians in the world . However , his fundraising to give handouts to the poor of the world has only raised a bit over 100 million (Hicks which is about one year 's wages for Sachs ' close ally Bono . Therefore the question comes up that if these influential and rich people so believe in these financial handouts for the poor , why aren 't there billions of dollars being contributed to the cause ? The answer seems quite simple- talk is one thing , and action is another . While it is admirable and convenient for the rich and famous to talk about making a difference , they have frankly failed to take the right actions to make it happen
Self Reliance-Missing in Action
One common thread that is clearly lacking in Sachs ' work is that of self reliance he does not differentiate between a hand up- education and opportunity to work for what one has , and hand out- pouring money on the fire of poverty . If Sachs addressed self reliance more , the work would be more credible
