Dopey Innocence

The Big Lebowski is a contemporary attempt to highlight the lives of ordinary people with high aspirations who eventually encounter complex situations along their way to achieving what

they wanted most . The movie does this mainly through the life of Jeffrey Lebowski as well as through the other characters . With the addition of several flights of fantasy the movie is able to set the parameters of the movie within the context of human relations where ordinary people with high aspirations can connect and relate themselves

The kidnapping theme essential to the movie carries this point across without much effort of spelling things out for the audience . In fact , the movie appears simple enough that the complexities behind it surface just at the fitting moment

Marjorie Baumgarten in her review of The Big Lebowski notes that the movie is paved with delightfully irregular and anticipated bits of business ' which clears the point that the movie departs from the structure of most movies in more recent times . She also maintains that the movie deliberately parades itself...
