In the United States accessibility and affordability of health care remains controversial There is a large segment of the population that is not insured and accessibility to affordable health care remains an issue in this segment of the population . While United States has a private driven health care system , Canada has maintained a publicly funded health care system resulting to a high level of accessibility and affordability by majority of the population . Canadian model has healthcare services provided by private entities rather than a socialized medicine . Despite having a higher level of budgetary spending than Canada , United States healthcare system has not achieved what Canadian system has achieved in terms of coverage and affordability .
