experimentation and meticulous recording of his observations , Thomas Edison might never have been able to perfect his light bulb , which brought electricity into people 's homes

Franklin 's work as an ambassador is perhaps his greatest contribution to history , however . His efforts as minister to France were vital to the new nation 's war efforts .
