A Beautiful Mind Abstract The following is the assessment of John Nash . Nash was diagnosed as having schizophrenic , paranoid type shortly after his son was born . It was determined that onset occurred in his mid 20 's during graduate school . Symptoms included hallucinations , delusions , flat affect , and occasional disorganized speech . Nash was the rare exception to the rule because he was high functioning , of high intelligence , got married , and held a high pro job . His illness and intelligence had a profound effect on many around him . However , despite his mental illness

, Nash contributed to the world of economics and can be proud of a number of accomplishments throughout his life . Some of these accomplishments include an appointment at Wheeler Defense Labs , a Noble Prize , a teaching appointment at Princeton and the successful fight to contain and manage his schizophrenia
Assessment
John Nash was a male in his early 20 's . His was high functioning and of high intelligence . He presented with flat affect and shuffled walk . Nash experienced delusions of grandeur . His delusions are ongoing , extremely complex , and effected his daily life , including his family and work life . His delusions of grandeur began shortly after accepting a job at Wheeler Defense Labs as professor and researcher . Nash believed he was a code breaker for the United States government . Nash recalled meeting with a number of military personnel to discuss an important mission for Nash . He also believed that these government officials had implanted him with a device that contained a routing number . The device was to access entrance into to the place he dropped off his code braking work . Nash 's believed that his work was helping to locate Russian spies attempting to bring a bomb into the U .S . His job was to review popular magazines and newss for hidden messages by the Russians . These messages gave the coordinates to where the Russians were located . Nash eventually became paranoid , fearing the Russians had found out he was a code breaker . Nash also experienced hallucinations . His first hallucination appeared at the beginning of graduate school . This hallucination was his college roommate , Charles Harmon . Eventually , Harmon introduced Nash to his niece , Marcee
The government agent , William Parcher was also an ongoing hallucination . These hallucinations were a big part of Nash 's life Nash 's wife and coworkers believed that Charles and Marcee exist based on the stories they had heard from Nash . They had never been told of William Parcher . Nash had little insight into his mental illness . It took him some time to come to terms that he had a mental illness and that the people and activities he had truly believed to be real were in fact all a delusion
Family History
Family history is often the determined cause of schizophrenia . The story began when Nash begins graduate school and there was never any mention of his childhood or his family . There was also no family mental or medical history available . There was also no mention of childhood trauma...
