Corporate America is at a crossroads with the workforce . At one end , 77 million baby boomers are arriving at the age of retirement where companies are on the verge of losing talent and experience . On the other end , you have Generation X and the Millenials , who are hitting the grey ceiling ' Without the baby boomers retiring , there are not many top management jobs for

people to move into . As this trend continues organizations are finding it more and more difficult to balance retaining the knowledge and skills of the baby boomers while trying to hold onto the new talent of the x and y generations who are growing restless in middle management positions

With their retirement plans going belly up , many Baby Boomers now cannot afford to retire , which means that they will be working longer than many companies have anticipated . Many have watched their 401k 's dwindle friends losing their jobs , forced early retirements , as well as witnessing first hand the cost-cutting measures in their jobs . This is not good news for Generation X and the Millenials who are plotting their next career moves . They are restless and will easily leave and go somewhere else to get the opportunities they deserve , which is a huge detriment to succession planning in Corporate America

Somehow , there needs to be a balance between preserving the knowledge talent and skills...
