Student Professor Course 03 March 2009 Aztec Mythology and Cosmology It can be argued that in the Medieval Age , Europeans considered themselves as the most sophisticated civilization in the world . This is due to ignorance brought upon by limitations in transportation and communication technology . In fact , before Christopher Columbus discovered the American continent Europeans were only aware of the Middle-East and Asia . So when the European colonizers stumbled upon the Aztec Empire they could not believe their eyes . The majestic temples and awe inspiring cities that were built

Overview
It was the Spanish monarchy that supported Christopher Columbus in his voyage to the New World - the American continent - and so it was inevitable that the Spaniards would benefit from his discovery . In a few years the Spaniards began serious plans to colonize the New World . There were many conquistadors who were sent to the Americas by European monarchs but Hernando Cortez was one of the few who made a distinct mark . This is due in part to his courage and tenacity to conquer for God and Crown . But what really cemented his legacy was his conquest of the Aztec Empire
