Sampling and Measurement

1 ) What is the kind of movies that US moviegoers would like to watch How much is the average amount that they are willing to spend for it

2 ) The data from All-Time USA Box Office showed the ranks , movie titles , year of showing and the gross amount of revenues per movie . The

list did not specify the number of people who went to watch the movie It is a limited source of information in the sense that the prices of movie tickets vary , that is , the later the showing of the movie , the higher is the price of its showing . So , the ranking was made based on the revenue regardless of when it was shown and the value of currency at the time it was shown

3 ) For the USA Box Office revenues for the 381 top grossing movies , the mean is 163 ,782 ,736 and the median is 137 ,669 ,996 . These values represent the parameters of the population . They represent the characteristic of the population . A parameter is any numerical value describing the population and is different from statistics since the latter is any numerical value describing a characteristic of a sample

4 ) In simple random sampling , the numbers were selected randomly using the set of random numbers . From line 1 , columns 21 , 22 and 23 were chosen to become the first three-digit number to represent the rank of the movie . The ranks of the movies were numbered 001 , 002 , and so on , in to have three-digit number representation . The numbers exceeding 381 are being disregarded . For simple random sample , the mean is 172 ,378 ,656 and the median is 140 ,299 ,969

5 ) In systematic sampling , the sampling interval was first chosen Since the population was divided by the sample in to know the sampling interval , and the interval is approximately 7 . Then , a number from 1 to 7

was randomly drawn from a bowl and it yielded number 7 . It means that movie ranked 7 in the data is the first to be included in the sample All others will include every 7th ranked movie thereafter . For this sample 165 ,801 ,329 is the mean and 140 ,608 ,298 is the median

6 ) The margin of error is 5 or 0 .05 . It means that there is 5 probability that something is false from the assumption . It is the reverse of 95 confidence level , wherein 95 is the chance of something being true . Further , this means that for every number of test that shows results significant at the 95 level , the odds are that 5 of them is false

7 ) The samples both randomly and systematically selected appear to be representative of the sampling frame . In the case of means , the mean of population , which is 163 ,782 ,736 , is...
