Abstract

The facial expression test is an experimental method used in the identification of children with Asperger 's syndrome and autism . The test includes its reliability for future medical uses . In the experiment there were 20 children diagnosed with Asperger 's syndrome and autism and 20 healthy children were used for the comparison of results

Introduction

br and autism . The symptoms would involve hampered or late progress in social skills like inability to communicate or imagine . A child with Asperger`s syndrome would likely to have normal intelligence , near normal language development but tends to have communication problems as it grow old . On the other hand , autism is more severe than Asperger`s syndrome hence they are incapable of socializing or unable to form relationships . For severe cases , autistic children tend to be alone Almost 75 of children with this dis is mentally retarded . Posted in BUPA (2003 ) in 1000 children from age four to five , 9 are more likely to be affected by Asperger`s syndrome . While for autism the number is lesser , with only about 1 in 5 ,000 children . Boys are more to be affected than girls . Among the suspected causes of PDD is genetic factor , but inheritance pattern is unpredictable . For non genetic causes , prenatal exposure to viral infection like prenatal toxoplasmosis and syphilis are believed to be the cause of underdevelopment or abnormality of the brain before and or after birth . Still there is no known exact cause of the dis . According to Rosen (1999 .The therapy of PDD is intensive as compared to other mental illnesses because it costs a long lasting treatment . The therapies to be used are symptomatic or supportive in nature like special education , behavioral therapies , and social skills training . However , psychoactive medication could also be given for the treatment of specific symptoms like psychostimulants antidepressant and mood stabilizers for preoccupations , compulsions and for anxiety . However he also said , there are limitations in the treatment process using the new technologies hence there is no single medication present for the dis . Family therapy may prove to be worth it but it is very complicated for the parents to do lifelong emotional support . An article in AMA (2007 ) said that since PDD is not yet fully understood experimental , innovative and investigatory treatment are the ones available

Application

In a classroom set up , the children with PDD either Asperger 's syndrome or autism will be diagnosed using the facial expression test . Controlled children will be used as basis of comparison on the progression of the experiment
