Asian American Literature
Asian American Literature The First paragraph is no doubt about some body who is an Asian American who is obviously trying to be a typical American by completely and deliberately forsaking his own Asian identity . He listened to classical music through earphones while reading his art book memorizing and reciting lines , obviously to practice American accent and diction and to be able to speak English in correct pronunciation , accent , and diction The act of refusing traditional native food of his home country seemed to mean he has absolutely embraced the American way

of life
The second paragraph was about a young man Danny who was disgusted by what he has witnessed , a drunken big man annoying his father . His reaction is obviously an impact of collision of two different cultures He was surprised when his father politely thanked the man for his arrogance . However , it appears that the man is harmless though he is drunk . His action seemed to represent a typical expression of ordinary Americans , particularly when they are drunk . The third lines still speak of Danny . It seemed that he was the same Danny earlier who was shocked about the indifferent things he has witnessed involving his father However , this time , he was more mature or as the context goes , embodied absolute Stoices . He was no longer affected emotionally by those indifferent things resulting from conflict of cultural perspective
The Fourth line presents a particular perhaps radical couple , who may be does not care about whom they live with . The last three words seemed to criticize their style , which , apparently , displeasing . While the fifth lines goes back to Danny who maybe either a gladiator or is engaged in dirty sport because of the audience reaction about his performance . The language of the audience expressing their dismay suggests that they were expecting more brutal , aggressive and killer instinct actions , which Danny may not have because of his cultural orientation . To summed it up all , the passages speaks of cultural encounters to which ordinary lifestyle had been viewed differently because of different cultural orientation
