1 ) What type of lead does the story have ? Why do you think the author chose this sort of lead ? Is it effective ? Why or why not

The article is told in a delayed perspective since it vaguely recounted an instance that conveyed the thoughts and experiences of Khalid as a jihad fighter . It was somehow effective as it compelled me to read the story to the very end , keeping

in mind that it was a feature article although for impatient readers , it could be a bit dragging

2 ) What type of ending does the story have ? Why do you think the author chose this sort of ending ? Is it effective ? Why or why not

The article ended with an anecdote that was linked to the main sentiments of Khalid about the on-going jihad war . I believe the author had the intention of re-establishing the moral dilemma of the main character 's tale , which was contributing to a war that did not warrant certainty of success or amity

In this sense , I liked how the author tried to capture the essence of Khalid 's story as it revealed the struggles of a former jihad fighter and how it represents most of those who are fighting in the Iraq war
