Paper Topic:

Art in a Democracy

Art in a democracy

I strongly agree with Alexis de Toecqueville

There is need to examine the historical roots of America to find a reason in my

argument . America is a land which was discovered accidentally , by Columbus . Europeans

who were starved of land and trade /business opportunities , found a new ocean of

opportunities in this discovery . Many Europeans relocated themselves to this new land . As

their number grew , they became more dominant , and sidelined the ` real American culture

if there was anything of that sort , to

be replaced by the borrowed thoughts from Europe

From culture to lifestyle , to form of government to language . there is nothing

originally American about America . Almost all its value systems are borrowed from

Europe , and altered to suit their requirements

Good taste , especially in art , is strongly related to cultural identity . Culture defines the

life styles and the system of living for the society . Art forms of the basic civilizations of

humanity are so strong in themselves , and have a distinct taste , which is supportive of

their culture . Greek , Indian , Egyptian , Chinese , and Mesopotamian creations are not the

results of passion only , but they reflect and communicate a strong cultural identity . This

strength is the good taste of the creator

Commenting on literature , the author writes , Almost all important English books are

republished in the United States .not only do Americans constantly draw upon the

treasure of English literature , but it may be said with truth that they find the literature of

England growing on their own soil .they paint the colors borrowed from foreign

manners ( Tocqueville , para 2 , 3

Work culture of the United States is surely passion oriented
