Sex Education : Should Condoms Be Distributed in Schools The issue of distributing contraceptives in the likes of condoms among schools is a concern that has been plaguing the society ever since AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases have been preying the youngsters in the society . It sparked a series of debates that confined not only within the four corners of homes and classrooms , but also within the legislative and executive branches of American government . Other people wanted to have condoms distributed in schools so as to prevent further damages caused by AIDS

and STDs however , the conservatives , on the other hand , chose otherwise since this will just encourage young people to live a promiscuous sex life . The main purpose for condoms is to prevent the acquisition of AIDS and HIV diseases which can be obtained through sexual intercourse . the 2007 yearend Global HIV /AIDS Estimates which stated that young people (under 25 years old ) account for half of all new HIV infections worldwide (Avert Organization statistics of 2007 . Furthermore , the estimates showed the continuous increase of people having HIV - from around 8-million in year 1990 to at least 33-million today , and most of whom are in sub-Saharan Africa . In the United States , the prevalent sexual activities of young people (mostly women to heterosexual intercourses , while , for the case of males , there are also what they call the young-men-who-have-sex-with men ) without the use of contraceptives have brought an upsurge in HIV infections among these people . In a recent survey , people below twenty-five years old actually comprised half of all new HIV infections in America , while people under twenty-one years old took one-fourth of such population . This does not include the nearly four million youth aging twenty-years old and below who experience other sexually transmitted diseases every year such as herpes and gonorrhea (Dykeman , et al , 2007 . The aforementioned statistics , however , did not include those young people who have not been examined for HIV /STDs thus , it can be viewed that in reality the numbers are bloated higher than those cited in surveys and studies
