Even the calmest person can name a number of annoyances that can be classified under the category : Pet peeves . These are annoyances that are not really important but which cause a disproportionate to their importance . Even though my pet peeve deals with America 's newest import it is not one with an economic theme but should be viewed as more of a cultural rant about what has become of our society and the hero worship of people who clearly should not command that much attention from us . export is not democracy , nor is it any product of invention as most things which are bought in America , are made overseas . Sadly , over the past few years , America 's greatest export has been our pop culture . As a result , other , more important aspects of life have been put to the side and less developed countries have or soon will , pass America in the important categories that really do matter and which propel a country to continued greatness

It has been a pet peeve of mine and one that has been growing at an exponential rate , concerning the degree of heightened importance that Americans give celebrities . Such names as Paris Hilton , Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan The Big Three ' of train wrecks have commanded the greatest percentage of our time . Needless to say , there are more important and pressing issues which our young people and future leaders of the world should be concerned about but which are not . The percentage of 18-24 year olds who vote , despite the vigorous Vote of Die campaigns of recent elections , have done little to actually compel young people to actually go out and vote . And why should they when they do not know the issues at hand

In a reoccurring segment on Jay Leno 's Late Night Show entitled Jaywalking , Jay Leno walks the streets of Los Angeles and asks random people questions which an informed high school student should know Questions such as : When was the Civil War ? When was the War of 1812 Who is the Vice President or name more than one person on The Supreme Court ? The answers are supposed to be funny because often times , only the wrong answers are aired that night on his program . There is no way of knowing how many people needed to be interviewed before such silly and incorrect answers were given . However , since the segment is one of the reoccurring ones , there is no shortage of material that the Leno show has at their disposal . These segments are not inclusive only to the uneducated but often times , teachers and people with college degrees or those in pursuit of degrees are the ones who give the silliest answers

At first , I viewed these segments as funny as I waited to hear the silly answers that people would give regarding their answer as to who was the Vice President of the United States . Then , it made me a little sad which eventually...
