A key feature of Mark as a gospel is its shortness which has led to its being ignored for the longer more detailed versions presented by the other gospels . Mark is the oldest of the gospels and may be the source of information included in other books It is therefore probable that the information used by Mark is more accurate this has led to an increase in use of this book . Unlike other gospels , Mark gives little on the early childhood years of Jesus . It does not open with the birth or childhood years of Christ rather in the first chapter Jesus is already an adult and performing miracles . In most versions of Luke the first major appearance of Jesus in this gospel is in his baptism . It should be noted that the birth of Christ and his childhood are some of the most popular stories regarding Jesus and the little interest accorded to them by Mark is a key discussion point .
