Franklin D . Roosevelt was born in January 30 , 1882 in Hyde Park , New York . His parents were James Roosevelt and Sara Delano Roosevelt After completing his Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University he took up law and completed his law degree at the New York 's Columbia University . He got married in 1905 to Anna Eleanor Roosevelt with whom he had six children but one died during infancy

He entered politics in 1910 as a Democratic candidate . He was first elected to the New York Senate . In 1912 , he was re-elected in the Senate . He was subsequently appointed as Assistant Secretary of the Navy in 1913 where he served until 1920 .
