American Indians or Native American , whichever form used , are more than just the aboriginal peoples that occupied North America long before the arrival of Columbus and other European adventurers . The invasion and takeover of the settlers should have been a wake up call for the future and other places colonized by the Europeans . The group came into the land already occupied and took dominance over the native people or savages . While the invaders spent 5 centuries

destroying civilizations throughout the Americas , and now in the last thirty years the United States government is supposed to be working toward better integration of the nations of American Indians . The lip service is nice , but the truth is that the damage has been done and the government refuses to give up control of these peoples
